Mountain View Elementary has been named a winner in the 2015 Single Statewide Accountability System awards program through the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. The Bronze Award in the Greatest Gains category was awarded to Mountain View Elementary on May 24, 2016. MVES earned this award for exhibiting high growth in student achievement. The academic growth for Mountain View Elementary School over the last three years has been in the top 7% of schools in the state. MVES is one of 127 schools in the State of Georgia to receive this award. The hard work and dedication of teachers, staff, parents, and administration working with students to aim high and achieve is paying off, and we look forward to achieving even greater gains in the future. HB 402 has finally been signed into law as of today. HB402 incentivizes employers to hire 16 or 17 year olds in work based learning positions. This legislation allows our students around the State to pursue work rooted in their educational instruction while simultaneously preparing them to enter today's workforce. It encourages employers to provide work based learning opportunities for high school students by allowing insurance providers to offer a 5% reduction (capped at $2500) in worker's compensation premiums. HB402 will become law on July 1, 2016. Please join me in thanking Lt. Gov. Cagle, Rep. Eddie Lumsden, State Board of Education Chair Mike Royal, the GA Dept.of Education, and GA Dept. of Insurance for all of their hard work to push this legislation to pass.
